8 December 2021
The Hygiene Bank charity was delighted to receive more than 100 bags of toiletries, thanks to generous donations by students and parents in Years 7 and 8 for this year’s Marden Christmas appeal. The Hygiene Bank’s #ITSINTHEBAG campaign supports local people in need this Christmas. Volunteer Lorraine was delighted to collect them from Head of Marden Miss Charlotte Owen on Thursday 2 December.
A few days later, after Lorraine and other volunteers had spent “a busy couple of days sorting all the amazing bags”, Lorraine provided news of where the bags were heading.

Our first stop was Carers in Redhill on Monday morning, which supports around 50 elderly and vulnerable people in their own homes in Surrey. When we did our first Christmas campaign the bags were so greatly appreciated we now give them top priority. Throughout the year Carers keep gift packs and mini toiletries to give to their clients on their birthdays as most don’t receive a lot. As you can imagine, these extra special bags will be much loved.
Our next stop was East Surrey YMCA, which supports young people who often arrive there with very few possessions. Hillbrook House offers a safe haven for young people who would otherwise be homeless. Bags suitable for teenagers and young adults go there.
The last stop on Wednesday was Their Voice - Empowering Survivors of Modern Slavery, based in Caterham. This non-profit organisation supports and offers care and compassion for those who have suffered due to human trafficking and modern slavery. When people reach a safe house, Their Voice provides a basket of essential toiletries. It also supports mothers and pregnant women with essential baby/maternity items. Any bags suitable for women, men and children go here. Our #ITSINTHEBAG campaign gives an extra boost at Christmas.
As you can see, by donating to this Christmas campaign Marden students have helped support several charities and people in the local area. Our team of six volunteers has worked hard to ensure these bags are delivered without delay and we very much appreciate your support. CQ9游戏官网 School’s donation accounts for more than 80% of bags received this year.
Thank you all and Merry Christmas.
